As we move into the first week of our Remote Learning Program and based on our experience to date, there are some adjustments we wish to make and points to reemphasise to make the online learning experience more effective for our students and families.

  • All parents please check your direct messages in SEQTA daily. Staff will be providing feedback on student progress and engagement in their learning via SEQTA
  • Given that teachers are teaching from home, if they wish to make contact with you, they may call with their own mobile phone. In order to speak directly with teachers, this will require you to answer calls that will appear without a Caller ID.
  • Alert administration at St John’s on 8793 2000 if your child has computer or internet access issues immediately.
  • As of Friday, Learning Mentors will be implementing a Homeroom period to begin each day. Starting at 8.50am, this period will be an opportunity to check on wellbeing, engagement issues with SEQTA and attendance. You will receive an SMS by 11am each day if your child has not logged into the Homeroom period.
  • In order to receive and act on parent and student feedback regarding our online learning program we will be sending home a short survey each week. This survey will be sent home via SMS each Friday and provide an opportunity for parents and students to identify both commendations and recommendations and a request for a follow-up phone call if required. Parents can also provide more detailed feedback via email to principal@sjrc.vic.edu.au
  • We have started the learning programs for students within SEQTA. Each student also has a Microsoft 365 account and therefore the capacity to include some online video conferencing is possible. This is being trialled by some senior teachers with their classes this week. Once the parameters are set for when and how the video conferencing will occur, we will send out further details regarding the protocols. Due to child safety, these video sessions will be recorded.

As I have previously stated, online learning is a new experience and we are fine tuning our program based on teacher, student and parent feedback, hence the importance of regular two-way communication between home and school. I look forward to your responses as we continuously improve our learning program and the outcomes for our students.

Yours sincerely,
